Each year The Gathering of Women solicits applications for high school students students from the Tampa Bay area . These awards are based on the student's academic, artistic, athletic or other abilities, and may factor in an applicant's extracurricular activities and community service record. The Roger & Renee Education award is also based on the student's intended college, and recognized academic achievement . Other requirements are a GPA of 3.0, a 500 word essay and a letter of recommendation. The applications are solicited in February and is awarded in April of each year.
Every November, students are invited to an essay writing workshop to explore the essay writing process from the the pre-writing stage to the revision stage. When applying for college the grades and test scores are important , but the personal essay is a key factor in determining who gets in , and who doesn't. The essay that will impress the reviewer must be original, focused, and structured . Our coaches are all professional writers with a wealth of experience in writing college application essays.
In January 2006, the Gathering of Women Princess Prom Dress Drive was formed as a community service project to outfit disadvantaged girls for their prom. The working philosophy was that no high school girl should miss this rite of passage because she could not afford a dress. It was a simple principle that resonated in the Saint Petersburg community and sparked an outpouring of support.
We believe that no girl should miss out on this enchanting time of their life. You may help us by donating prom appropriate dresses, shoes, purses and other accessories.
The Men & Women of Distinction are honored and recognized for their boldness, innovation, raising the bar, crashing glass ceilings, introducing new thought in their professional realms and community service.
The Christmas party for more than 300 children was held on December 21,2022 from 4-7 PM at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Saint Petersburg. The party allowed children to enjoy a day of fun and games, tasty food, face painting, storytelling, arts & crafts ...making it a place where a kid can be a kid. Each child was given a toy from Santa himself. The age of the children ranges from 1 -16 years of age. All donations went directly to the children who would otherwise not have Christmas, this year will be a Christmas Day to remember. Your donation made a direct impact on a local child's life. Your volunteer assistance helped bring joy to these young children.
The Gathering of Women Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon
On Sunday, December 18, 2022, from 2-5 PM the Gathering of Women hosted the annual Christmas Luncheon for the senior citizens in Saint Petersburg. The event will feature entertainment, lunch, Christmas caroling and of course Santa. The Gathering of Women also distributed holiday gifts to each of the senior citizens attending. The event was held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2101 22nd street South, Saint Petersburg Fl.
The goal of the series of workshops is to support the creation of strong healthy youth relationships for hundreds of youth in the Tampa Bay community. It will also help shift the image/ perception of men and boys inside and outside our community. We know that we can't solve the immediate problem of our male youth but can certainly begin to identify the problem and work from there. Our goal today is to examine the challenges facing our youth in our community.
Have you ever been a flower girl or have you ever wanted to be a flower girl? The flower girls are symbols of purity , virginity and youth. In weddings , they historically proceed the bride in the wedding procession. Significantly, the flower girls is prepubescent younger than 10. The innocence of the childhood embodies in the young flower girl.
The flower girls program is developed in honor of Rene' Flowers for her commitment and contribution in making our community a better place. The Gathering of Women's Flower girls will be engaged in etiquette, community involvement, health, merit,praise dancing, the arts and sisterhood. We will have adult speakers/young teens to engage in conversation or activities with the flower girls. The ages of the girls are 5 -11 and 12-17 for Butterflies . The program will run on a 8 month basis. From August to June . At the end of the 8 month program the flower girls will have a reception or tea with invited guests.
The Flower girls & Butterflies meet on Saturday on a weekly basis from 9-12 am beginning the end of August . The maximum number of girls will be 25.
Both the Mancamp & Flower girls are engaged in music development i.e. music instruments and dance. Not only s music an amazing tool for academic & cognitive development its a proven vehicle to support children in other areas of development-social, emotional, & psychological. Music can also be used as a source of support-regulating the child's mood or helping the child deal with feelings of boredom or loneliness. The classes are provided on a weekly basis.
